Valencia Acacia Salad Servers

Acacia, carved into a pair of salad servers whose handles are a run of open links freed from a single length of wood — the gaps cut through rather than fitted together, so nothing along the chain is a join. A deep round bowl at one end, a wide fork with three tines at the other.

A chain has no joins to work loose because there were never any joins — everything between the links was cut away instead. It also flexes: the handles drape over a bowl rim rather than levering out of it. Every link was freed by hand, so no two chains fall the same way.

Solid acacia is a naturally dense wood that rewards simple, considered care — keep it dry between uses and condition it occasionally to maintain its grain and warmth over time.

• Hand wash with mild soap and warm water; dry immediately with a soft cloth
• Never submerge in water or place in a dishwasher
• Avoid prolonged soaking, which can cause the wood to split or warp
• Apply food-safe oil occasionally to nourish the wood and maintain its surface
• Store in a dry setting away from direct heat or prolonged moisture
