Santiago Gold Cake Servers

Braided rope over matte gold steel, made up as two cake servers — one a straight knife edge, the other a wide offset lifter — with the rope wound the full length of each handle and closing in a gathered tassel. Two blades doing different work on one grip.

Three sets now share this handle: the cheese knives, the salad servers and these. Lay more than one on a table and it reads as a single decision rather than three separate purchases. The lifter steps down from its handle, which is what clears a plate rim.

Braided natural rope requires gentle handling — moisture and heat are the two things most likely to loosen the braid or alter the tassel over time, so hand washing and immediate drying are essential after each use.

• Hand wash only with mild soap and warm water — do not submerge the rope handle
• Dry immediately and thoroughly after each wash, paying particular attention to the base of the tassel
• Do not place in the dishwasher — heat and prolonged water exposure will damage the rope and loosen the braid
• Keep away from prolonged direct heat or humidity, which can cause the natural fiber to stiffen or fray
• Store flat or upright to preserve the tassel form — avoid compression under other utensils
• Avoid abrasive cloths or harsh cleaning agents on the matte gold blade surfaces
