Sahara Wool Rug
Form & Presence
At every block boundary, a raised woven seam marks the construction line — the only interruption in an otherwise flat, even surface. Large rectangular blocks carry three tones — ivory, sandy beige, and warm taupe — in a staggered offset across the full field, no two identical blocks sitting directly adjacent. The weave is close and low to the ground throughout.
In a sitting room with a low sofa and afternoon light coming in from one side, the rug holds the floor without drawing attention to itself. The three tones read as a single warm field from across the room; the block structure and the woven seams between them become visible only when standing over it.
Material & Composition
- Measurements 5′ W × 8′ L
- Material Handwoven natural wool blend — close and firm underfoot, with no pile
- Color Palette Ivory, sandy beige, and warm taupe; tonal variation within a single neutral palette, shifting quietly across the field
- Surface & Texture Low-profile flatweave with a raised woven seam at every block boundary — flat and consistent across each section
- Pile Height Flatweave — no pile
- Rug Pad Recommended for grip, cushioning, and longevity
- Artisan Touches Slight variations in weave and fiber tone are natural to each handwoven piece
Care & Longevity
Natural wool flatweaves are straightforward to maintain — the absence of pile means spills sit on the surface and the raised seam lines at block boundaries are a structural feature of the weave, not a vulnerability.
- Vacuum regularly using a low-pile setting without a beater bar
- Blot spills immediately with a clean, dry cloth — do not rub
- Spot-clean with mild detergent and cold water when needed
- Avoid prolonged direct sunlight to preserve the tonal depth of each block
- Professional cleaning recommended for deep care
- Rotate periodically to ensure even wear across the full field
