Natural cotton and wool crewel, worked into a pillow in flame stitch — broad bands of blush, amber, teal, yellow, purple and brick red running the width of the face, each meeting the next at a sharp zigzag with no blending between them. No ground shows anywhere. The only line on the face that is not a band is the red cord at the seam.

Six colors, no ground and no transitions means nothing in this pillow recedes — every band arrives at full strength, which makes it the loudest object in whatever room it lands in. Buy it knowing that. Flame stitch is built from one repeating angle, so the whole face is a single stitch worked over and over.

Wool crewel embroidery on a natural cotton ground requires gentle care — dry cleaning is recommended to preserve the texture of the broad color bands and the integrity of the directional stitching across the full face.
