Broad colour bands run the full width of the face in a flame stitch pattern — blush pink, amber, teal, yellow, purple, and brick red in bands of varying width. There is no ground showing; the embroidery covers the face completely. The zigzag edges between each band are sharp, and the colours shift without transition or gradation.

Set against a jute sofa in a sunroom, the pillow holds from across the room — the colour arrives before the form does. The red piping at the edge draws the eye back to where the object ends. Up close, the stitch work resolves into rows of directional wool, each band built from the same repeating angle.

Wool crewel embroidery on a natural cotton ground requires gentle care — dry cleaning is recommended to preserve the texture of the broad colour bands and the integrity of the directional stitching across the full face.

• Lay flat or reshape and air-dry away from direct sunlight to prevent colour fading

• Store flat or loosely folded to avoid compressing the raised wool stitching
