Quest Marble Arch

Honed from a single piece of white marble, the arch stands on two flat legs with a rounded crown — the opening carved clean through the centre, its inner curve following the same line as the outer. The form is solid and compact, heavier than its scale suggests, the matte surface giving the stone a quiet, unpolished presence.

On a bedroom shelf, between a small lamp and the spine of a well-read book, it occupies its few inches without effort. The grey inclusions in the stone catch differently in low evening light than they do in the flat light of midday — the surface shifting without the object moving.
