Phoenix Wool and Cotton Rug

Wool and cotton, handwoven into a rug at two different weights — chunky wool bundles sitting proud of the finer cotton threads around them. There is no pattern and no dye anywhere in it: the shift from warm beige to sandy ivory comes from the fibers themselves. Dimensional across the whole field, with no pile.

Color here comes from the fiber rather than a dye bath, so there is nothing to fade out of register the way a printed pattern does — what sunlight shifts, it shifts evenly across the whole surface. The wool bundles are what the foot registers first. From a doorway the field reads as one warm neutral.
