Narita Wool and Jute Rug

Hand-tufted ivory wool, cut with grooves in staggered offset rows across a rug, each groove going through the pile to the jute beneath — a warm sandy line showing at every cut. The offset keeps the rows from settling into a grid. Raw jute runs the full perimeter as a border.

The pattern here is not color or weave but absence: where the wool stops, the backing shows. Each groove reads as a warm sandy line against the ivory, and because the rows are staggered the eye never settles into a grid. From standing height it is a texture; from a chair it resolves into rows.
