Minerva Wool Rug
Form & Presence
The field is arranged in blocks — rectangular sections of two surface constructions placed across the ivory ground without a border or frame. Some sections lie flat and close-woven; others rise in dense clustered wool knots, bright against the warmer woven ground. The two constructions share one color but read as entirely different surfaces.
A bedroom with little in it — a bed low to the floor, bare walls, the morning quiet still in place. The rug sits beside and beneath the bed, its blocks of texture present underfoot before anything else in the room is noticed. The flat sections and the looped sections meet at clean edges across the floor.
Material & Composition
- Measurements 5' W × 8' L
- Material Handwoven natural wool and cotton — wool gives the raised knot sections their density, cotton anchors the flatwoven ground
- Color Palette Ivory and warm cream across both surface constructions — the flatwoven sections carry a slightly warmer tone than the looped wool blocks
- Surface & Texture Raised looped wool knots set against a close flat-woven ground — the transition between the two is clean and deliberate
- Pile Height Low — consistent across the field, with texture variation between the flatwoven and looped knot sections
- Rug Pad Recommended for grip, cushioning, and longevity
- Artisan Touches Slight variations in weave tension and knot density across the field reflect the nature of handwoven construction
Care & Longevity
The mixed wool and cotton construction of the Minerva calls for gentle, consistent care — the raised wool knot sections are more open than the flatwoven ground and can distort if vacuumed aggressively or exposed to prolonged moisture.
- Vacuum flatwoven sections regularly using a low-pile setting without a beater bar
- Vacuum raised knot sections gently or use a soft brush attachment to avoid pulling the loops
- Blot spills immediately with a clean, dry cloth — do not rub
- Spot clean gently with mild detergent and cold water when needed
- Avoid prolonged direct sunlight to preserve the ivory tone across both surface constructions
- Professional cleaning recommended for deeper maintenance
- A rug pad is recommended for grip, cushioning, and longevity
