Minerva Wool Rug

Wool and cotton, handwoven into a rug of blocks worked in a single ivory — some sections flat and close-woven, others rising in dense clustered wool knots. There is no second color anywhere; the whole pattern is made from surface. The flatwoven ground runs slightly warmer than the looped wool above it.

The looped sections can be pulled. A beater bar, a claw or a caught heel will lift a knot where the flat sections would shrug it off, so half this rug wants a soft brush and the other half does not. Nothing separates the blocks but height, and the edges between them are cut clean.

The wool-and-cotton weave of the Minerva calls for gentle, consistent care — the raised wool knot sections are more open than the flatwoven ground and can distort if vacuumed aggressively or exposed to prolonged moisture.

• Vacuum flatwoven sections regularly using a low-pile setting without a beater bar
• Vacuum raised knot sections gently or use a soft brush attachment to avoid pulling the loops
• Blot spills immediately with a clean, dry cloth — do not rub
• Spot clean gently with mild detergent and cold water when needed
• Avoid prolonged direct sunlight to preserve the ivory tone across both surfaces
