Mandira Geometric Throw Pillow

Wool crewel on natural cotton, the whole face of this pillow given to a lattice — rows of stepped diamonds, each holding a navy cross at its center, meeting point to point so the navy ground shows only as crosses and seams. The stitch is dense and directional, laid in short runs that change angle with each color. Red piping closes the edge.

From across a room the lattice is a single warm field with blue in it; from a seat the diamonds separate and the navy crosses come forward. The crewel has a slight give under the hand and the color changes are felt as well as seen, each block a different direction of thread. The red piping holds the edge.

• Lay flat or reshape and air-dry away from direct sunlight to prevent color fading

• Store flat or loosely folded to avoid compressing the raised wool stitching
