Magpie Bottle Opener

Hand-painted enamel on aluminum, formed into a bottle opener shaped as a bird — a rounded breast in yellow, a black domed head with a spotted yellow beak, dark green wings carrying black spots and fine feather detail. A white chevron crosses the chest. At the tail the enamel gives way to a bare steel loop.

Bare steel at the tail is deliberate — enamel would chip against a cap, so the working end is left unpainted. The bird stands rather than lies flat, which is why it ends up left out on a counter. The white chevron is the only straight line on the piece.

Hand-painted enamel on aluminum requires gentle handling — the painted surface will hold well with consistent, simple care.

• Wipe the bird body clean with a soft damp cloth after each use
• Do not submerge in water or place in a dishwasher
• Avoid abrasive cleaners or scourers on the enamel surface
• Dry thoroughly after cleaning to prevent water marks
• Handle with care — the painted surface will chip if knocked against hard surfaces
• The stainless steel loop may be wiped clean with a damp cloth and dried immediately
