Machu Picchu Onyx Spoon Rest

Onyx, cut into a flat spoon rest — cream warming through honey and amber, the color laid down in parallel bands that run the length of the piece. The silhouette is fluid: a wide round head narrowing into a straight-sided body, all edges continuous and smooth from one end to the other.

The head takes a serving spoon or a ladle without overhang; the narrow body gives the hand something to lift by. The stone stays cool beside a hot pan. Held to the light, the thinner edges carry some translucency, and the banding shifts with it — no two pieces repeat the same sequence.

Onyx loses its surface depth when exposed to acids or left wet — prompt wiping after each use and keeping acidic substances away from the stone are the two things most likely to preserve its finish long term.

• Avoid acidic substances — citrus, vinegar, and harsh detergents will etch and dull the stone

• Store on a stable surface away from prolonged humidity
