Macello Salt & Pepper Shakers

Mango wood, carved into two shakers with concave faces running the full height of each body — the grain changing direction from face to face, moving between warm honey and deep brown as the angle shifts. A brushed steel cap in matte gold sits flush at the top of each, cool against the wood.

These shake rather than grind, so they suit a table where the seasoning is already ground and gets passed rather than worked. Picked up, the body is warm and the cap is not, which is the first thing anyone notices.

Mango wood stays sound when kept dry — moisture and prolonged exposure to water are the most likely causes of warping and grain lift over time. The brushed steel caps want wiping rather than submerging.

• Avoid prolonged exposure to water or steam
• Do not use harsh cleaning agents on the metal caps
• Condition occasionally with food-safe oil to maintain the wood's natural luster
