Leela Horn & Bone Boxes

Deep brown horn and off-white bone, etched and inlaid into two lidded boxes — one large, one small — in a diamond mosaic that meets at every corner. Within each horn piece, fine lines are cut below the polished surface, so the relief sits inside the color rather than between the pieces. Bone runs as the line, horn as the field.

Brown against off-white is a softer contrast than black would give, so what carries this pair is the etching inside each horn piece — lines cut below the surface that a lamp brings up and an overhead light flattens away. The diamonds meet at every corner, so neither box has a front.

Horn and bone inlay requires gentle care to preserve the integrity of the etched surface and the MDF base beneath — keep away from moisture and handle the boxes by their base rather than the lid.

• Avoid prolonged exposure to direct sunlight to preserve natural staining and luster
• Store in a dry environment to maintain the integrity of horn and bone
• Do not submerge in water or expose to humidity — moisture can loosen inlay over time
• Handle by the base — avoid lifting the lid to protect the inlay at the seam
