Kismet Marble Cloche Board
Form & Presence
The edge of the board is scalloped — repeating rounded lobes that run the full perimeter of the calacatta viola marble, giving the serving surface a considered silhouette before anything is placed on it. The glass cloche sits centered on top, sides lightly fluted, with a solid rounded knob; lifted, it clears the board completely.
Midday sun crosses the table — the board already set at the center, the cloche holding cheese and sliced fruit underneath. Crackers in a basket to one side, olives in a bowl, glasses waiting at the edge. The spread is done; the board was placed first and everything else arranged to meet it.
Material & Composition
- Measurements 14″ L × 14″ W × 8.5″ H
- Weight 8 lb
- Material Calacatta viola marble — dense and cool, with the natural weight to anchor the board on any surface
- Color Palette Ivory white ground with charcoal, brown, and amber veining; tone and depth shift naturally across the surface
- Surface & Texture Honed on all surfaces — matte, close-grained, smooth under the hand
- Artisan Touches The scalloped lobes are shaped by hand — the stone reads differently across every board, the edge a distinct line on each piece
Care & Longevity
Used as a serving surface, calacatta viola marble needs protection from acidic foods — cheese, fruit, and citrus left directly on the stone will etch the finish and dull the honed surface over time.
- Seal the marble board with a penetrating stone sealer before first use; reseal every six to twelve months.
- Wipe the board clean immediately after use — do not allow food, moisture, or citrus to sit on the surface.
- Clean with a pH-neutral soap and warm water; avoid acidic or abrasive cleaners.
- Dry thoroughly after each use — standing water will mark the stone over time.
- Clean the glass cloche with warm water and a soft cloth; avoid abrasive pads or chemical cleaners on the glass.
- Store the cloche separately to avoid pressure on the marble edge.
