Kalahari Wool & Cotton Rug

Wool and cotton, handwoven into a rug of thick knotted loops — a dense, nubby surface carrying visible yarn irregularity across the whole field. Bands of warm brown shift to soft sand and cream along its length. Each band is a change of yarn color, not a change of weave. The short edges end in twisted cotton fringe rather than a bound hem.

Because the bands are color rather than weave, the surface is identical from one to the next — so they wear at the same rate and no band sinks before its neighbors. Loops rather than cut ends mean nothing splays with traffic. The yarn irregularity is the point, and it will not even out.

Wool and cotton handwoven rugs are maintained with gentle, regular vacuuming — wool's natural lanolin offers some protection against soiling, but the chunky looped weave traps debris easily and the fibers respond poorly to saturating moisture or harsh cleaning agents.

• Vacuum regularly on a low suction setting; use a suction-only attachment — beater bars distort the looped weave and stress the handwoven base
• Blot spills immediately with a dry cloth; do not rub or saturate
• Avoid harsh detergents, alkaline cleaners, and bleach — these strip wool's natural oils and cause fiber damage
• Do not steam clean or wet shampoo
• Avoid prolonged exposure to direct sunlight to preserve the natural tonal colorway
• Rotate periodically to distribute foot traffic and wear evenly
• Professional cleaning recommended every 12–18 months for optimal longevity
