Gilbert Wool Rug

A grid of twisted wool cords divides the flat natural ground into square cells. At the center of each, two cords cross to form a hash mark — hand-placed in a sequence of charcoal, tan, soft grey, and cream. No two adjacent cells share the same color, giving the pattern a quiet, shifting rhythm across the field.

Against a wood floor in a study or home office, the grid brings a deliberate order that settles a room without closing it down. Laid beside a bed, the hand-placed marks become visible only up close — at distance, the rug holds as a warm, unbroken field of natural beige.

Wool flat weaves with raised cord detailing hold their structure best when vacuumed regularly and kept free of grit — fine particles work into the base of the cords over time and gradually weaken the weave if left to accumulate.

• Vacuum regularly on the suction-only setting — do not use rotating brush attachments, which can catch and pull the raised cord grid.
• Blot spills immediately with a clean, dry cloth — do not rub, as this can work moisture into the base of the cords.
• Spot clean with a wool-safe solution only — do not saturate the surface with water or liquid cleaner.
• Rotate every six to twelve months to distribute foot traffic evenly across the grid pattern.
• Avoid prolonged direct sunlight, which can shift the tone of the natural beige ground and fade the cord colors over time.
• Professional cleaning recommended for deeper maintenance — specify wool flat-weave with raised cord detail to your cleaner.
