Form & Presence

Natural cotton, oat-colored and closely woven, is drawn over from corner to corner on this pillow: horses, deer, peacocks and hens, leaves and small suns, each outlined in black thread and given a few strokes of red, cobalt, ochre or teal. The figures overlap and interlock so that no ground is wasted, yet the drawing stays legible because the line never thickens.

From a chair the pillow is a warm, busy field with red and cobalt flickering through it; in the hand it is a page, and the animals arrive one by one. The stitched line has a slight ridge the fingers can follow. Pressed flat by a leaning back, the pattern does not crease or shift.

Black outline thread carries every figure on this oat cotton ground, with color added only in short strokes. Black is the thread most likely to bleed under heat, and on a pale ground it has nowhere to hide.

If washing at home, turn cover inside out and use cold gentle cycle
Lay flat or tumble dry low and reshape promptly
Do not iron directly on embroidered areas
