Estonia Hurricane Candle Holder
Form & Presence
Stone and glass, the form defined by the carving on the base. The base stacks in tiers — a wider lower section, a narrower upper — both worked in close relief, the grooves running in one continuous direction across the surface. A recess at the top holds the candle; the glass rises clear and straight above.
The wind has been at the windows since they sat down. Inside, the table is set — two places, the candle burning well into the evening, the dinner unhurried. Someone brought more wine. The piece has not shifted from where it was first placed, the room holding steady around it, the night loud outside.
Material & Composition
- Measurements 4″ L × 4″ W × 13″ H
- Weight 10 lb
- Material Artichoke Green Onyx: green onyx — a stone with a cool density and a quiet depth that varies naturally from piece to piece · Fossil Brown Travertine: travertine — a porous stone with an open grain and a warm mineral weight, the texture more pronounced
- Color Palette Artichoke Green Onyx: pale sage to soft green with grey-green veining and cool undertones · Fossil Brown Travertine: deep grey-brown with warm taupe undertones and open mineral variation
- Surface & Texture Relief-grooved across the full base — the worked surface textured and close, the glass surround smooth by contrast
- Artisan Touches The grooves are worked by hand — depth and rhythm vary slightly across each piece, and the surface of no two reads the same
Care & Longevity
Both green onyx and travertine are porous — wax drips and moisture from the candle are the primary threat, and either will mark the stone if left on the surface around the base.
- Wipe the stone base after each use — do not allow wax residue or moisture to sit on the surface.
- Use only pillar candles that fit securely within the recess; an oversized candle will allow wax to overflow onto the stone.
- Clean the stone with a soft damp cloth and pH-neutral soap; avoid acidic or abrasive cleaners.
- Seal the stone base with a penetrating stone sealer before first use; reseal annually.
- Clean the glass with warm water and a soft cloth; avoid abrasive pads.
- Handle the glass and stone base separately when cleaning — do not submerge either in water.
- Store the glass separately to avoid pressure on the stone relief.
