Each bookend is a solid block of marble, cut to a low, wide arch profile with flat base and back. Gold inlay runs across the face in a geometric starburst pattern — lines that extend from a central point outward to the edges, precise in their placement and consistent across both pieces. The marble is smooth and dense, the inlay flush with the surface.
On a shelf, the pair sits at either end of a book stack — the arch profile visible above the spines, the gold pattern facing out. On a desk without books, the two pieces hold their position on the surface without adjustment.
Marble bookends stay in best condition with simple, dry care — the polished surface and gold inlay are both susceptible to moisture, abrasive contact, and harsh cleaning substances over time.
