Dakota Marble Cheese Board
Form & Presence
The board is wide and asymmetric — one top corner arched, the opposite sharper, the bottom corners softly rounded. The outline follows no regular shape; the stone fills it generously. A leather cord loops through a small hole at the upper corner, knotted once and left to hang alongside.
Late morning — the board carried out and set on the table, the loop still over a hand. Bread and cheese already on it. Someone pulls out a chair and sits. The board stays where it landed, the morning settled enough that no one needs to move it again.
Material & Composition
- Measurements 16″ L × 9″ W × 0.6″ H
- Weight 5 lb
- Material Himalayan Brown marble — a dense stone with a layered mineral structure that gives each board its own distinct weight and depth
- Color Palette Warm sand and taupe ground with flowing ivory veining; grey and cool blue-grey undertones visible across the surface
- Surface & Texture Honed across the full face — smooth and close-grained, with the edges softly eased
- Artisan Touches Each board is shaped by hand — the outline varies slightly from piece to piece, and the stone's natural banding reads differently across every one
Care & Longevity
Himalayan Brown marble is porous along its natural banding lines — oils and acidic foods left on the surface after serving will penetrate the stone and alter its appearance over time.
- Wipe the board clean immediately after use — do not allow oils, citrus, or acidic foods to sit on the surface.
- Clean with a pH-neutral soap and warm water only; avoid acidic or abrasive cleaners.
- Dry thoroughly after each use — standing water will work into the stone over time.
- Seal with a penetrating stone sealer before first use; reseal every six to twelve months.
- Do not submerge in water or place in a dishwasher.
- The leather cord is natural — keep dry and avoid prolonged moisture exposure to prevent the cord from softening or marking the stone.
- Do not use abrasive sponges or scouring pads on any surface.
