Charlotte Marble Bowl

Solid white marble, carved into a low bowl whose outer wall runs with angled ridges — closely spaced, cut at a lean that gives the form a sense of rotation. The interior is smooth and gently recessed, in direct contrast to the carved outside. The stone is close to pure white, dense and close-grained, with faint mineral shading across it.

The ridges throw a narrow shadow that moves as the light does — the reason the exterior is carved and the interior is not. The lean in the cutting gives the bowl a direction, so it appears to be turning slowly even at rest. Inside, nothing interrupts the white.

White marble holds its surface when kept dry and away from acidic substances — prolonged contact with citrus, vinegar, or acidic foods will mark the surface and is the most common cause of permanent staining on white stone.

• Wipe with a soft dry cloth after each use
• For spills, clean with a lightly damp cloth and mild soap — dry immediately
• Keep acidic substances — citrus, vinegar, oils — away from both the carved exterior and the interior basin
• Do not use abrasive cloths or harsh chemical cleaners on any surface
• Lift rather than drag when repositioning — the base will scratch surfaces beneath
