Beatrix Marble Salt & Pepper Set

A pair of mills from Terra Bianco marble — the same stone, the same form, the veining falling differently across each. The body is worked in stacked relief, bands of raised and recessed carving running the full height. The top cap widens slightly, its edge faceted; a small chrome knob sits centered on each.

Dinner is already underway — plates down, wine poured, the table fully sat down to. One is lifted and turned, the weight of it noticed before it is pressed and set back. Between courses, both sit at the center of the table, steady among the things that make a dinner worth sitting through.

Terra Bianco marble around the grinder top is the most vulnerable point — salt residue and moisture collecting in the relief carving will work into the stone if the mills are not wiped down after each use.

• Wipe both mills dry after every use — pay particular attention to the relief grooves where residue can settle.
• Clean with a soft damp cloth and pH-neutral soap; avoid abrasive cleaners on both the stone and the chrome top.
• Do not submerge in water or leave standing in moisture.
• Seal the stone surfaces with a penetrating stone sealer before first use; reseal annually.
• Avoid acidic substances near the stone — citrus, vinegar, and similar will etch the surface over time.
• Store upright in a dry environment when not in regular use.
